Module 3 - Creating SMART Goals

SMART Goals

Your overarching goal is your destination, or that best version of yourself, aka that person you aspire to be.
And your SMART goals are generally smaller goals that help you get there.
Picture
An example of a general goal might be, "I plan to exercise more." A SMART goal would be, "I plan to walk 10 miles a week during the month of January to help increase my overall fitness." Another example of a general goal includes, "I am going to eat healthier." A SMARTer goal would state, "I am going to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies everyday for the next 30 days."

Whatever your SMART goal, be sure it is attainable, or that your are 90-95 percent sure that you can actually achieve it. If not, you may need to tweak the goal. Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up for failure, which is never a good thing. If you can, write these goals down, but even if you don't physically write them down, make sure to be very clear in your own mind. Be clear and be intentional so that you don't leave your success up to chance.

Setting SMART Goals Exercise

Think of something you would like to accomplish, a big goal. Now think about creating a series of SMART goals that will help you get there. Then ask yourself, is it specific? Measurable? Attainable? Relevant? Time bound?

When you are finished, move onto to module 4.
