"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." - John F. Kennedy
Performance
Whether a competitive athlete or weekend warrior interested in outperforming your peers, having a performance edge can make all the difference. Yet in order to tap their full potential an athlete must be able to utilize all their resources.
Coaches and trainers often do a great job of coaching and training, but may lack the skill set needed to properly diagnose and address muscle imbalances, mobility and flexibility deficits, and poor training practices, all of which lead to underperformance and even injury.
During Shaun's twenty-five years working in out-patient orthopedics, she has treated numerous athletes. Additionally, her degree in Nutrition as well as her past and present personal training experience have given her a unique skill set. She realizes the importance of balance in training practices to ensure proper athlete development, injury prevention, and peak performance. She is an expert at diagnosing imbalances and weakness that may be impacting an athlete's ability to be their best. Finally, she can advise on the role of performance nutrition and restorative sleep in aiding recovery.
A performance consultation typically involves a complete assessment of the athlete including:
muscle flexibility
joint mobility
soft tissue dysfunction including trigger points
gross muscle strength
foot and ankle mechanics
structure and function as it relates to performance
dietary habits if deemed relevant
Using this information, Shaun develops an action plan to:
address client's concerns
advise on best strategies to address identified areas of deficit which may include referral to other fitness professionals
educate the client on injury prevention and performance enhancement
recommend sound dietary strategies and other post workout practices as they relate to sport and recovery
Shaun also enjoys working with teams and groups to address training issues, and is available to provide ongoing education and guidance through talks, seminars, and other learning experiences.
